Longtime radio host Lonnie Strauss retires from Bluejay 96.3

Posted

After more than four decades on the air, Lonnie (Scott) Strauss has retired from his morning show at Bluejay 96.3.
Strauss spent 45 years in broadcasting, beginning his career at WIDG Radio in St. Ignace and WJNR in Iron Mountain, Mich. He later worked at stations throughout Illinois and Missouri before returning to Wisconsin to work in Marinette, Escanaba, and at WXCO in Wausau.
In 2016, Strauss joined rock station WMZK (Z104) in Merrill as morning host. He moved to WJMT “Bluejay 96.3” in 2017, where he hosted mornings until his retirement this month.
Station President and General Manager Steve Resnick announced the retirement Nov. 19, 2025. “Lonnie’s retirement marks the end of an era for Midwest radio — a career built on consistency, warmth, a love for music, and a deep connection with listeners across state lines,” Resnick said. “Whether waking up early risers or spinning stories between songs, Lonnie brought heart to the airwaves.”
