Donations sought for tree lighting

Donations are being sought to support the “forest of trees” that decorate the Lincoln County Courthouse lawn during the holiday season.

The annual tree lighting starts on Dec. 7 when Santa magically turns on the tree lights at the end of the Holiday Parade. An estimated 2,000 people gather at the corner of Court and E. Main streets to view the enchantment.

Several business benefactors and individuals have stepped forward to donate to the tree lighting fund over the past few years. The current fund is depleted and donations are needed to pay for electrical costs associated with the lighting for the holiday season. The trees themselves are donated and decorated annually by volunteers.

Donations are tax deductible and checks can be made payable to the Merrill Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc. Courthouse Tree Lighting. All sized donations are greatly appreciated. Contributions can be mailed to Courthouse Christmas Tree Lights, c/o Merrill Area Chamber of Commerce, 705 N. Center Ave., Merrill, WI 54452.
