James Marx Corroo, 70, of Merrill, passed away unexpectedly Thursday Oct 10th, 2013 as a result of an unfortunate car accident.
He was born on September 18th, 1943 in Milwaukee Wisconsin to the late Joseph and Leona (Gleesing) Corroo. Jim graduated in January of 1962 from Bay View High School, Milwaukee, and soon after attended UW Whitewater.
Jim moved to the Merrill area along with his first wife Kathy in 1969 and always considered Merrill his “home”. Jim owned and operated many businesses in the Merrill / Wausau area where he met and made life-long friends.
On August 27th, 1988 he married Daria Krause, they were married for 25 years, and she survives.
Jim truly enjoyed life and had many past times which included bowling (evident by his 197 lifetime average over 40 years), golfing, gardening, playing cards and spending time with his friends and family. He often spoke of the great times spent at Gaedtke’s shack, where he was considered family.
In the 1970’s he was involved in the Merrill Area Jaycees as well as Merrill’s Community Theater in which he played the lead role in “Room Service”. Jim had a zest for life and could tell a story like no other. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife Daria (Krause) Corroo, Merrill; Kathleen (Mike) Slavin, Stevens Point, (mother to his children); children CarrieJo (Jim) Nelson, Kristen (Andy) Mann, Jason (Sheila) Corroo, and Jessica Matteson all of Merrill; grandchildren, Matthew (Amy), Jared, Katelyn, Joshua, Ryan, Eric, Andrew, Peyton, Hilory, and Lydia; siblings William (Becky) Corroo, California, and Joanne (Bill) Wyss, Racine, Wisconsin; Father-in-law Fred Krause, Irma; Mother-in-law Ardeth Krause, Merrill; Sister-in law Debbie (Dragos) Zeicu, Florida; Brothers- in- law Kevin (Sherry Bees) Krause and Kallen (Lisa) Krause, both of Wausau; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter Heidi Corroo; grandson Mitchell Lemon; and his parents Joseph and Leona Corroo.
The funeral will be at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Merrill. The Rev. Linda Kuhn will officiate. Visitation will begin at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
