Susan J. Hoffman, 65, of Merrill, died Saturday, Dec. 11 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Merrill after a two year courageous battle with lung cancer.
Sue was born May 5, 1945 in Merrill, daughter of the late Herman and Ivy (Gartmen) Hoffman.
Sue worked at various places in Merrill from her earlier days as a waitress at Club Modern to Pizza Hut and Walmart. Other jobs included factory work at Wire Products and Northern Wire to her most recent job cleaning at Lincoln Wood, where her goofy antics brought a smile to all who knew her. She was well known for her fun loving spirited attitude towards life and often treated her fellow workers to candy bars and pastry after winning at the casino. Sue enjoyed gambling trips with family and friends. She enjoyed it so much that for several years she worked as a hostess for WoJo’s Tours and Travel. When she wasn’t working she enjoyed spoiling her grandkids. They always knew she had treats in the corner cupboard when they came to visit or stayed overnight.
Survivors include daughter Amy (Jason) Vander Velde, Merrill; son Brad (Dianne) Detert, Gleason; and grandchildren Bethany, Katelyn and Tiffany Detert and Jacob, Jackson and Mason Vander Velde; her sisters Karen (Butch) Diels, Jean (Dave) Mootz and Sandy (Ron) Spears; and sister-in-law Sandy Hoffman. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harvey Hoffman and nephew Todd Spears.
The visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20 at Church of the Ascension, 218 Pier St., followed by a short service.
Mid-Wisconsin Cremation Society is assisting with arrangements.
