Roger A. Koch, 69, of Wausau, formerly of Merrill, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010 at Mount View Nursing Home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.
He was born Sept. 23, 1941 in Merrill to the late Arnold and Dorothy (Seidel) Koch.
Roger was a 1959 graduate of Merrill Senior High School. He served in the U.S. Army for 5 years and was stationed in Germany. After being honorably discharged, he returned to the states and worked for Anson-Gilke Company until retiring due to illness. Roger was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Prior to his illness, he had been a member of The Lincoln County Sports Club for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed tying his own flies. Roger also was a very good baker, with pies, cakes and breads being his specialties.
Survivors include his brother, Donald (Florence) Koch, Merrill; nieces, Melissa (Darren) Lemke and Tracey (Dan) Lokemoen; grand-nephew Trenton Lokemoen and grand-nieces Destiny Lemke and Maria Lokemoen, all of Merrill. Other family members include: Craig (Kristi) Schwocho and Jeni (John) Blaubach, all of Merrill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Dorothy Koch.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Waid Funeral Home. Robert Schneider will officiate. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be Monday, December 13, 2010 at Merrill Memorial Park with military honors provided by VFW Post #1638. The Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
