Allan “Butch” Duane Diels, age 85, of Merrill, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026. He was born on June 19, 1940. Butch was united in marriage to Karen Hoffman on October 11, 1958. They shared a lifetime together until Karen’s passing on October 4, 2024.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Butch worked as a hospital orderly at Holy Cross Hospital, later as a small engine mechanic at B&D Motors, and eventually sold and repaired Simplicity lawn equipment for Weaver and Sons in Merrill. He also farmed and took great pride in maintaining the family farm.
Butch was a devoted family man who never missed a Little League game, whether coaching or cheering from the sidelines. He was a true animal lover and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. In his later years, his greatest joy was sitting outside in his chair watching over the farm he loved so much.
Butch leaves behind his children, Tim (Sherri) Diels and Scott (Mary Jo) Diels, both of Merrill, WI; his grandchildren, Keith Diels, Kristina (Zack) Patterman, Courtney (Dan) Diels-Osness, Derek Diels, Hunter (Kaylin) Diels, and Chantelle (Zack) Anderson; and his great-grandchildren, Cayden Diels, Adein Diels, Kaylee Patterman, Riley Patterman, Florence Anderson, and Abel Diels.
Anyone who knew Butch just loved him. He will be remembered for his kind heart, steady presence, deep love of family, and devotion to his farm and animals.

A Celebration of Butch's life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Eagle's Club in Merrill at 4 PM.
