Dennis “Ben” John Lane

Dennis “Ben” John Lane, passed away August 5, 2022, at his home. He was 74 years old. Dennis was born December 26, 1947, in Wakefield, MI to William and Beverly (Nee Sundell) Lane. He graduated from Custer High School in Milwaukee, WI. His summers from age 5 to 18 were spent with his Aunt Shirley and Uncle Ziggy in Wakefield, MI, where they made memories to last a lifetime. He married the love of his life Jo “Jo Anne” (Nee Keller) Lane on May 17, 1969. Together they raised an amazing family. As his children reached school age, the family decided to leave the city behind and moved to Merrill, where Dennis was employed as a printer at Quality Print.  His dream of being his own boss came true when he opened and operated the first Health Food Store (Health Lane) in Merrill.  Later he acquired additional skills as a cabinetmaker, groundskeeper and dialysis technician.  Dennis loved to hunt, fish, shoot archery and play pool. He enjoyed traveling and socializing. Dennis volunteered as a Foster Grandparent at Copper Lake/ Lincoln Hills School from 2011 – 2012.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; brother: William Donald Lane and brother-in-law: Ronald Dassow. He is survived by his wife: Jo; sons: John (Lindsey Toldness) and Douglas (Shannon Engen) Lane; grandchildren: Camron and Kayden Lane; sister: Dana Jean Dassow:  nephews: Ryan (Nicole), Brody, Carter Dassow; Brad (Mary) Dassow; Shannon (Robin), Maria and Monica Lane. He is further survived by other relatives, in-laws, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hazelhurst Town Hall, 7020 US-51, Hazelhurst, WI, on September 10, 2022, from 12:30pm until 6:00pm. A service will be held at 1:00pm with food and refreshments to follow. We welcome you to share in our laughter and tears by sharing your stories and favorite memories of Dennis. In memory of a wonderful with man with a great sense of humor, who is greatly missed by all.
