MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

7-4-2022
At 8:07 p.m. a caller reported finding a backpack lying in an alleyway several hours earlier. Nobody had retrieved the backpack. An officer collected the backpack and in searching it to attempt to identify an owner, located several pieces of drug paraphernalia. Investigation continues.
At 8:30 p.m. a female called to report an incident that occurred the previous night at a residence. She reported a male she had been dating had slapped her buttocks, and she told him to cease doing this and an argument ensued. When she attempted to leave, the male grabbed her around the neck and pushed her against a wall and told her she could not leave. In the morning, the male told the female if she told anyone about what had occurred, he would kill her. The man is facing several charges, including fourth degree sexual assault, strangulation/suffocation, intimidation of a victim, and false imprisonment.

At 12:50 p.m. an individual was stopped and issued a citation for speed.
At 2:29 p.m. two individuals were reported to be together, which was in violation of a court order. One of the parties was taken into custody for the violation.

At 8:02 a.m. an individual was stopped and warned for failing to stop for a stop sign.

At approximately 10:11 a.m. a male party was arrested for a probation violation at the Probation and Parole Office in Merrill.
At 6:19 p.m. officers were dispatched to a department store for a shoplifting complaint. The suspect took off in a vehicle with two other occupants. Officers attempted to locate the suspect in the area without success. The suspect has been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.

At 4:29 a.m. officers were dispatched to a residence on N. State St. for a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the parties involved. A male subject was taken into custody for domestic battery.

07-10-2022
At approximately 12:26 a.m. officers were dispatched to an area tavern for a report of a suspicious person. The reporting party stated there was a male at the bar showing people a firearm. Officers and deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene. The male was detained inside the bar. There were no weapons or firearms located on the male. The male was then released without incident.
At approximately 2:38 a.m. officers were dispatched to a west side apartment complex for a report of smoke inside the apartment. Officers arrived on scene, along with the Merrill Fire Department. The reporting party was arrested on scene for disorderly conduct and interfering with fire fighting equipment.
