Looking for new places to fish? Give a fishing easement a try!
A fishing easement is a privately owned land that the DNR purchases directly from landowners. Members of the public are granted access to the land for recreation, like hiking, fishing and wildlife viewing.
DNR management activities are also allowed along the property’s stream corridor, allowing the DNR to protect and restore the riparian corridors on coldwater and warmwater streams through activities like streambank restoration projects.
An easement is generally 66 feet of land from the stream bank on either side of the stream.
Anglers can use easements for fishing streams and rivers. Just make sure to say within the easement boundaries. Stay on the shoreline or wade in the stream to fish and remember to take home whatever you bring with you.
