Eighth grader Sylvia Hanson has been named October Youth Optimist at Prairie River Middle School. She was nominated by Mrs. Yanke who said: “Sylvia is constantly going above and beyond academically and socially within classes. Sylvia is a self-directed learner who advocates for herself and is open to feedback when she receives it. She is very kind, helpful, and patient when working in groups and is willing to advocate for others. She always has a bright and positive attitude, even when things get tough.” Sylvia enjoys being a part of the Bluejay Swim Team and taking part in WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) and the Student Council. She has received Student of the Quarter and was chosen to be a WEB Leader. During Sylvia’s time away from school, she donates to the Lincoln County Humane Society, is an Aqua Jay, plays soccer, and dances.
