With four games in, the Merrill Bluejay Boys Varsity Soccer Team has yet to land a win. That being said, on Thursday, Sept. 2, they traveled to Marshfield for a game and “showed great improvement over their past two Valley opponents,” according to Coach Ryan Schroder.
“Joshua Henderson (Freshman, Goaltender) continued his great play in net, giving up 6 goals on 26 shots and a penalty kick,” Schroder said. “Our offense had their best showing to date, led by Matt Rydeski (Senior, Striker), Mark Ladewig (Junior, Midfielder), Aaron Hipke (Sophomore, Midfielder), and Jaden Bush (Sophomore, Striker/Midfielder), recording a total of seven shots, all in the second half.
On the defensive side of the ball, Mike Nofsinger (Senior, Defender) and Jonathon Kracht (Sophomore, Defender) played big minutes for the Jays once again and worked to keep the ball out of the back of our net.
Coach Schroder said he and all of the coaching staff are very excited about the direction the team is headed and are looking forward to gaining a few more key players back in the near future.
“Other key players from the game were Angel Maldonado Nava (Junior, Midfielder) and Corbin Jones (Junior, Midfielder),” Schroder said.
