Our Saviours Lutheran Church has organized a Diversity Storytime in Merrill on Tuesday evenings this summer. Adult volunteers will share stories that invite discussion and foster openness about topics that can sometimes be difficult to broach, in a fun and sensitive way, using books and stories.
“Everybody is Somebody Special” Summer Storytime will be held at Stange’s Park [209 W. Third St. in Merrill], from 6:30-7:00 p.m. each Tuesday evening from now through the end of July.
“We will read aloud stories that celebrate the rich diversity of people and cultures that grace our communities and the world,” said Pastor Pat Schutz of Our Saviours. “A short discussion time will follow and a snack will be provided at the end.”
“Too often we let diversity divide us without taking time to get to really get to know people who are different from us,” Pastor Schutz said. “Stories are a wonderful way for children to learn to talk about and appreciate the ways we are all somebody special, especially because we are all different!”
All children and families are invited. Book selections are geared toward children ages preschool to age 12.
