The Rotary Club of Merrill presented a $3,745 check to the Merrill Community Food Pantry on behalf of the Merrill Rotary Club. For year, around the holiday season, Rotary Club donated to the Food Pantry. Typically, funds were raised in December with a holiday auction, but this year, due to COVID restrictions, the auction couldn’t be held.
Knowing that the community has many families that are struggling, due to conditions brought on by COVID-19, Rotary Club still wanted to do something and decided to make a $2,500 donation on behalf of the club. “But it didn’t end there,” said Nicole Johnson, Rotary Club’s President elect. “Kevin Cohrs (Rotary Club Member) challenged the club to try to raise some additional funds to donate.” He started an email chain, Johnson said, and “Within a day, the e-mail chain was able to generate an additional $1,245 from club members.”
“It is a great feeling to be a part of a group that is so generous and in-tune with the needs of the community,” Johnson said. “Now more than ever, we must come together as a community to help one another. Rotary has a long history of showing support in many ways to both local organizations and international service projects, and we are proud to carry on that strong tradition with our current members.”
The Rotary Club of Merrill currently has about 30 active members and is always welcoming new members who are interested in serving the community of Merrill. Check them out on Facebook to learn more about the great work the club does: www.facebook.com/merrillrotary.
