US 51 pavement replacement begins May 4

Construction on US 51 southbound, between US 8 and Lincoln County S, is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 4, 2020. Crews will remove and replace 6.25 inches of asphalt pavement on 8.6 miles of US 51 southbound from US 8 to County S in Lincoln County. Additional work will include reconstructing 4.5 miles of US 51 southbound, a bridge deck overlay on the Wisconsin River Bridge, four culvert pipe replacements, concrete pavement replacement, curb and gutter, and pavement markings.Portable changeable message signs (PCMS) will be in place starting Monday, April 27, 2020 notifying motorists of the upcoming project.
During Stage 1, from Monday, May 4 through Friday, May 22, southbound US 51 traffic will be shifted to the northbound US 51 lanes via temporary crossovers. Northbound US 51 will operate with single lane, bi-directional traffic. Access will be maintained to all ramps within the project limits.The pavement replacement is scheduled for completion in mid-October 2020. Northeast Asphalt, Inc. is the prime contractor for the $6.2 million project. All construction schedules are weather dependent.
