Joseph Peter Schoone, age 79 of Rhinelander, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston. He was born on July 14, 1939, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin to Peter and Gertrude (Amelse) Schoone.
Joe graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1957. He married Joyce Krueger on August 21, 1965, in Bloomville and together they raised their family of two children in Rhinelander. Joe was a long time employee of the Rhinelander Paper Company until his retirement in 2001.
Among his interests, Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and travel with Joyce. He was an avid participant in Snow Shoe Baseball, slow pitch softball, bowling, and golf.
Joe is survived by his wife, Joyce Schoone of Rhinelander; his two children, Joseph D. (Tammy) Schoone of Rhinelander and Sandra (Daniel) Holquist of Rhinelander; four grandchildren, Victoria, Vanessa (Daniel), Adam, and Nathan (Allison); a great granddaughter, Natalie “Peewee”; his sister, Dorothy Gennrich of Gleason; other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Gertrude.
A memorial mass for Joe will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Rhinelander with Father Michael Tupa officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at the Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) in Rhinelander and again from 10:30 a.m. until the time of mass on Friday at the church. Inurnment will take place in St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Harrison.
