On Thursday night the Merrill wrestling team hosted Marshfield for a conference dual meet. It was a tough night for the Jays as they were only able to get wins in two weight classes, losing by a final score of 57-11.

Merrill would lose the first weight class of the night at 132 pounds, before Casey Hoffman at 145 pounds dominated his opponent, beating him 15-0. Later at 170 pounds Ethan Cordova wrestled a hard fought match that came down to the final seconds. Cordova would trail 3-2 with only 30 seconds left before the match needed to be paused for blood, when they resumed Cordova gave a good effort trying to get a last second takedown, however was unsuccessful as he lost 3-2.

Merrill would get one more win on the night, however it would come by forfeit at 285 pounds.

The Jays will be back on the mat on Friday, Dec. 28 when they host the Northern Exposure invite at Merrill High School, starting at 8 a.m.
