Merrill man held on $100,000 bond

A 43-year-old Merrill man is being held on a $100,000 cash bond as deputies continue to investigate a complaint from the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force.

Deputies took Scott A. Schug into custody on Monday at his Town of Corning home and forwarded charges to the Lincoln County District Attorney. Schug made an initial appearance in Lincoln County Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon facing three counts of second degree sexual assault of a child, two counts of possessing child pornography, two counts of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, two counts of exposing genitals to a child and there counts of child enticement-sexual assault. Bond was set at $100,000 cash.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation revealed that Schug developed a relationship with the child using social media and that resulted in crimes taking place in both Lincoln and Marathon counties. The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office did assist in serving a search warrant at property in the Town of Hamburg and is awaiting reports from Lincoln County before forwarding similar charges to their district attorney.
