PBS Wisconsin and America@250 partners are accepting applications for $500 grants to support community discussions exploring themes from the American Revolution Era that remain relevant today, including freedom, democracy, and service.
The grant program will award 15 recipients across Wisconsin who commit to hosting intentionally inclusive Community Conversations that bring together diverse groups — spanning cultural, ethnic, interfaith, and civilian-military backgrounds.
Wisconsin residents age 18 and older, as well as community groups, may apply between Oct. 16 and Dec. 17, 2025. Grant winners will be announced Jan. 19, 2026. Recipients must host at least one Community Conversation before July 4, 2026.
In addition to the $500, grant recipients will receive video modules from THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION documentary series, along with printed discussion guides and other resources designed to facilitate meaningful conversations.
Community Conversations should include approximately 20 participants and must be free and accessible to all. Grant recipients cannot charge attendance fees.
Receiving grant funds requires completion of a 90-minute facilitator training session hosted by PBS Wisconsin in February 2026. Grant recipients who skip the training will forfeit their funds. Recipients must also complete a follow-up survey within 30 days after their Community Conversation concludes.
University of Wisconsin employees are not eligible to apply. Applications will be evaluated on three criteria: how applicants plan to diversify their conversation group, how they will use the funding, and additional information provided.
PBS Wisconsin retains final discretion on application eligibility. Applications can be submitted through the PBS Wisconsin website starting Oct. 16.
