Crowds turned out in Merrill on Monday to celebrate the last major holiday of the summer. Children and adults alike enjoyed the beautiful weather, lining Merrill streets to watch the annual Labor Day Parade that featured floats, tractors, the Marching Jays, politicians, area dignitaries, civic organizations, sports, American flags, fire trucks, horses, and more. Of course, many of the kids were hoping to gather up some free candy to celebrate their extra day off from school.
Afterward, area residents and visitors made their way to the Merrill Fairgrounds for the annual Lions Labor Day Car Show to check out the cool cars on display from a wide range of eras in a beautiful array of colors and to browse the flea market and other items for sale. They were also able to grab a bite to eat from the open stands there, while others decided to go to the Eagles Club to enjoy a chicken dinner for the occasion.
