To the Editor:
Labeling political ideologies correctly
Lately there has been a large amount of inappropriate “labeling” and name calling in political ads.
Here are the basic political ideologies defined, which may help voters see through false accusations. Understanding the differences may prevent people from incorrectly labeling candidates or parties.

CAPITALISM: Mostly private and individual companies. Limited to moderate regulation. Free market, competition, profit.
SOCIALISM: Mix of private and public ownership of key services. Government plays a strong role in providing health care, education, infrastructure, and a safety net. Reduces inequality while keeping markets. Capitalism with stronger public ownership and social programs.
COMMUNISM: The community or state owns everything. In practice, the state controls the economy. In theory, the end goal is a classless, stateless society with shared ownership.
MARXISM: Not a government system. A political and economic philosophy developed by Karl Marx. Explains capitalism through class struggle and argues it will eventually give way to socialism and communism.
FASCISM: Dictatorial leadership. Extreme nationalism. Suppression of dissent and civil liberties. Powerful military and police. Businesses usually remain privately owned but operate under strong government direction or in partnership with the state.
Thank you for reading this. Please vote with an informed mind. Be intentional and listen to your heart. Every vote matters. Your vote is your voice.
