Free class for caregivers coming to Merrill this month

Posted

A free, six-week class designed to support caregivers will begin in Merrill later this month, hosted by the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Central Wisconsin.
“Powerful Tools for Caregivers” starts April 16, 2026, and runs on Thursdays through May 21 at the T.B. Scott Free Library, 106 First Street. Sessions run from 3 to 4:45 p.m.
The ADRC-CW notes that many people who provide care for others don’t think of themselves as caregivers — identifying instead simply as a spouse, child, or friend. But if you help someone manage medications, coordinate appointments, handle groceries, or keep up with household tasks, you qualify.
The class goes beyond the mechanics of caregiving to focus on the well-being of the caregiver. Topics include managing stress, guilt, anger, and depression; improving communication with family members and medical professionals; time management and goal-setting; and building confidence when facing difficult care-related decisions.
The class is open to anyone caring for a spouse, partner, parent, or friend, whether that person lives at home or in a care facility. It is not intended for professional caregivers.
Attendance is free, though donations are accepted. Registration is required. To sign up or for more information, call the ADRC-CW at 888.486.9545.
