Merrill hosted the WIAA Division 2 Sectional for Cross Country on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, at the Merrill Area Recreation Center (MARC). Athletes from 17 teams came out to run, competing with one goal in mind: To advance to the WIAA State Meet that will be held on Nov. 1 in Wisconsin Rapids.
“The day was nothing short of perfect,” said EmmaLee R. Smith, Merrill Varsity Cross Country Head Coach. “Perfect weather, challenging course, and excellent athletes!”
While no Merrill athletes were successful in their bid to advance to State, “One Merrill athlete, Jacob Mueller, was just shy of getting his opportunity to compete at State,” Smith said. “[He] took 12th place out of the 96 boys who qualified for Sectionals — an accomplishmment to be proud of!”
“The Merrill Boys and Girls teams competed very well and had many personal and career-best race times,” she said. “It was an excellent way to end the season.”
“We look forward to hosting the WIAA Division 2 Sectional again next year!”
