The Merrill Lions Club made a donation of $1,000 in 2022 to the Friends of Council Grounds State Park (FoCGSP) as part of a matching funds plan to benefit the Park and its visitors.
The FoCGSP are seeking and accepting matching donations now through April 30, 2023, for this fund drive. Donations may be placed in the secure slot on the Park Visitor Center door at Council Grounds or mailed to Friends of Council Grounds State Park Inc., N1895 Council Grounds Dr., Merrill, WI 54452. Checks should be made payable to Friends of Council Grounds State Park Inc. Any donations over and above the amount needed to complete the purchase and installation of the sign will be used to enhance visitor enjoyment of the Park.
Donations to FoCGSP are tax deductible. Donors who need a receipt should include a note requesting a receipt with their donation.
In March, FoCGSP decided the funds from this fund drive will be used to purchase and install an informational kiosk at the trail head where the River Bend Trail meets the Brown Trail at the Park entrance. Maps and information about Council Grounds will be placed on one side, and maps and information about Merrill and the River Bend Trail will be placed on the opposite side. The kiosk will be installed as soon as it can be delivered this spring.
