A Quiet place 2 (Showing in Theatres)
Rated R – For Violence, horror, and some bloody moments.
After over a year, A Quiet Place 2, the sequel to the 2018 runaway hit, at long last hits the Big Screen.
I am always wary of sequels to films, due to the fact that 7 out of 10 times, they tend to stink like cheese left in the sun for a week, and are often simply made for the sole purpose of removing our money from our wallets.
So I was very happy to see that A Quiet Place 2 outshines its namesake. Turns out, there is more to this story, and writer, director and co-star, John Krasinski, (13 Hours) tells that story well.
Opening with a flashback showing how humanity began its descent into the Quiet, and then picking up the story literally five minutes after the last scene of A Quiet Place part 1, it almost feels as if you are still watching the first film and simply sat back down after hitting the pause button to grab a snack from the fridge.
Emily Blunt (Looper) returns as Evelyn Abbot and does nearly the impossible, she builds on her character with facial expressions and body language, Also back are Noah Jupe (Wonder) and Millicent Simmonds (Wonderstruck) who steals the show as Regan Abbott, the eldest Abbott child, who is deaf. Millicent Simmonds is actually deaf in real life and takes command of the screen with an amazing sense of calm and bearing for one so young.
A Quiet Place 2 opens with a bang and holds you captive for its brief but amazingly well-paced 1 Hour and 37 Minutes. Doing what so few sequels actually accomplish, this film builds on the mythology of the first film and expands that world with a solid story.
Leaving the theatre, my primary thought was: When is part 3 coming out? Sell me that ticket now; I’m ready!
A Quiet Place 2 gets a solid 4 out of five stars for excellent acting, story, and edge of your seat entertainment. If you’ve seen the first film, you’ll definitely want to see this movie.
