Merrill High School (MHS) Sophomore Conor Sayles, has been named Athlete of the Week of April 22, 2021. Conor joined the Merrill Bluejays Varsity Dance Team this year. “I tried out Freshman year and didn’t make it, and then I heard about Dance Team going into Sophomore year, and people were telling me to try out again, and so I did and made the team,” Conor said. “We started practicing the second week of school, and we ended the first week of March. We ended up going to State with our hip hop routine, which is at the end of April.”
Conor started dancing when he was 10 years old and attends Brooke’s School of Dance. The first class he ever took was hip hop, he said. Now he dances at Brooke’s in tap, jazz, and two hip hop classes. Conor dances competitively and at the dance shows.
When he is not dancing, Conor enjoys spending time with his friends and family. He also works at Culvers.
Conor is the son of Kirk Sayles of Merrill and Caroline Sayles of L’Anse,Mich. He has a 1.6 GPA. “After high school, I want to move to New York and go to a performing arts school,” Conor said.
