Zoellner named Athlete of the Week

Nicole Zoellner, MHS Senior, has been named Athlete of the Week. Nicole wears the #21 jersey as a post for the Merrill Girls Varsity Basketball team and put up 11 points in the Merrill game against Wausau West on Jan. 8, making her the high scorer for the Lady Jays that night. This is Nicole’s third year on the Varsity team and her first year as a starter on the team.
In addition to basketball, Nicole is a right side hitter on, and two-year member of, the Merrill Varsity Volleyball team, and this fall was her first year as a starter on that team. She also plays Merrill Varsity Softball as the catcher and, had they played this past spring, that would have marked her third year; she has been a starter every year.
In addition to sports, Nicole is a member of the Link Crew, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, and Earth Club. She is also involved in “a new club focused around ending the stigma and normalizing conversation about mental health called Raise Your Voice,” Nicole explains.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, riding ATVs, and all types of hunting–bear, deer, grouse, and turkey, with her favorite being bear hunting. .
Nicole is the daughter of Penny Zoellner and the late Lee Zoellner, and is from Gleason.
She maintains a 4.0 GPA and plans to attend the University of Wisconsin La Crosse to study Nuclear Medicine Technology after high school. She aspires to be a Nuclear Medicine Technician at an Aspirus Hospital in the Wausau area, specializing in either oncologic applications or cardiac applications of the profession.
