Sunday evening, an officer responded to a shoplifting complaint at a local store. Upon arrival, contact was made with store staff who reportedly indicated 26-year-old Ashley Lindemann had removed a UPC label from a lower priced item and placed it on bags of dog and cat food, then proceeded to check out and pay just 48 cents for the items.
According to officer notes, the employee also observed Lindemann depart the store with a package of diapers which were not paid for. The employee pursued Lindemann, asking her to stop, at which point Lindemann reportedly ignored the requests and departed the store in a passenger car.
Upon matching the license plate number of the vehicle Lindemann departed in with a physical description of Lindemann as the registeired owner, officers went to Lindemann’s residence and made contact with her.
Lindemann reportedly admitted to the swapping of the UPC symbol, removing the package of diapers as well as removing two sticks of deodorant from the store. Lindemann’s husband reportedly returned the items to officers while Lindemann was taken into custody. Following transport to the Merrill Police Department, Lindemann was issued a court summons for a charge of misdemeanor Retail Theft and released.
