Merrill’s Debbie Merkel will hold a party Saturday at First Street Coffee Station to celebrate the release of her new CD, On Heaven’s Wings. The new CD, featuring contemporary Christian music with a country flavor, is being released to worldwide distribution through Nashville record label Musik and Film.
In September, the song On Heaven’s Wings was released to 25 states and to Canada and Africa. Radio promotions for her newest single, How Do I Say Goodbye, will begin immediately.
The album contains 13 tracks produced, recorded and mixed in Nashville and St. Augustine, FL, by the capable and accomplished hands of Tony Tolliver and Jeff Silverman.
Debbie’s musical talents have long been known in the Merrill community. A Halloween song composed at the age of eight and performed by her entire class at school was Debbie’s first revelation that her songwriting and voice were to be shared.
This is Debbie’s fourth recording venture since 2000. Many of the songs on the new CD were recorded a few years ago, but that release was never properly promoted. With the addition of new songs, the tracks are being re-released to Christian and country music stations worldwide.
Following her mother’s death in March 2012, Debbie decided to get back into the game and pursue music again. The new single, “How Do I Say Goodbye,” is a tribute to her mother.
“It’s been a long process,” she said. “I always wanted to be a musician, but after my Mom’s death I decided to pursue it again. What makes me happy is music and performing, and that’s what she wanted me to do. I feel I owe it to her to make my dreams come true.”
The public is invited to join Debbie for the CD release party starting at 6 p.m. Saturday. Debbie will be performing, and the new CD will be available for purchase and signing by the artist.
