Deputies are still seeking information on a dog that was abandoned alongside of US Hwy 51 in the Town of Scott on Monday morning. Just after 8 a.m. cell callers reported the dog tied to a highway post at the County Rd Q exit. A deputy found the dog but it would not allow him near it. Two deputies used an animal control pole to take the dog into custody and transport it to the Lincoln County Humane Society. The dog had a blue collar but no tags and appeared healthy according to shelter staff. Pet owners are reminded the Lincoln County Humane Society will take surrendered pets free of charge for families no longer able to care for their animals.
With the cold weather last week a dozen requests were phoned into the Sheriff’s Office to check on animals in the outdoors. Many of the callers were concerned about dogs and in one case some horses that were outside in the cold air. In all of the cases that were investigated by deputies no unsafe conditions were found but many pet owners were spoken to about the dangers of cold weather to their animals.
Tomahawk Firefighters assisted the Nokomis Fire Department on Tuesday after a structure fire was reported on Heuser Rd. Just after 11 a.m. a cell 911 caller reached the Lincoln County 911 Center and reported a trailer home with heavy flames coming from it. Tomahawk Firefighters were dispatched under mutual aid to assist Nokomis crews with the call. Firefighters from Tomahawk were on the scene for nearly three hours.
Deputies are awaiting statement forms before deciding action against a bus driver who put a school bus into the ditch Wednesday morning in the Town of Bradley. At 6 a.m. a cell 911 caller reported a bus had left the roadway and entered the ditch on US Hwy 8 near US Hwy 51. When a deputy spoke with the 73 year old driver he told him that a tire on the bus blew causing him to enter the ditch, but passengers on the bus said the bus driver fell asleep and when they yelled at him to wake him he went off the roadway. All of the passengers on the bus were adults; none claimed any injury. The bus driver is from Stevens Point.
Deputies investigating a hit and run crash are seeking the public’s help after a vehicle caused extensive damage Wednesday night in the Town of Harrison. A resident on County Rd D at County Rd B called 911 at 9:30 p.m. to report an older model pick-up truck, possibly a GM lost control and struck numerous objects including a power pole at the intersection before fleeing east on County Rd D. When a deputy arrived on the scene he found road signs, a stop sign, a junction box and a power pole were all damaged. The power pole was snapped off on the top half and had to be replaced by WPS workers causing power to be out for hours. The suspect vehicle will have extensive rear end damage. A 34 year old Medford man is in the Lincoln County Jail after deputies responded to a crash in the Town of Corning Sunday afternoon. A resident in the 9000 block of State Rd 64 called 911 after a vehicle crashed in front of their residence at 12:17 p.m. John P. Krug denied driving the vehicle but a witness saw him behind the wheel trying to free it from the ditch. Krug was taken into custody on a felony fifth offense charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated along with misdemeanor bail jumping. He will be held for a bond hearing on Monday afternoon in Lincoln County Court. He was also cited for operating after revocation.
Five people reported striking deer this past week. Four of those crashes occurred on Saturday.
