Vernon J. Hopp

Vernon J. Hopp, age 74, of Merrill, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Vernon was born January 16, 1938, in the Town of Schley, Lincoln County, son of the late John and Ella (Mosser) Hopp. Vernon was a veteran of the United States Army and had served in Hawaii and Thailand. He enlisted in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1963. Vernon had worked at Merrill Manufacturing. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and taking country drives.
Survivors include four sisters, Phyllis (Fred Will) Frederick, of Merrill, Lorraine Poi, of Gleason, Vernette (Louis) Heuser, of Tomahawk, and Darlene (Joe) Wimmer, of Merrill; two brothers, Harold (Barbara) Hopp of Merrill, and Roger Hopp of Gleason; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella Hopp; sister in law, Jean Hopp; three brothers in law, Elmer Frederick, Patrick Madden, and Daniel Harkner; and one nephew, Gary Madden.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Pastor Missy Holdorf will officiate. Burial will follow in Luther Memorial Lutheran Church Cemetery, Town of Schley, Lincoln County, with graveside military rites conducted by the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
