Dr. Ronald Piffl serving eye care needs at former Wolf office

Optometrist Dr. Ronald J. Piffl took over the former Wolf optometric clinic at 1007 E. First St. in Merrill 11 months ago.

Dr. Piffl had been an optometrist in the Wausau area since 1996, the last four years in private practice. When Dr. Larry Wolf announced he was retiring and the practice would be for sale, Dr. Piffl jumped at the chance.

“This was a great opportunity with Dr. Wolf,” he said. “It was good timing.”

Dr. Wolf has been very helpful with the transition, Dr. Piffl said.

“I can’t thank him enough,” he added.

Dr. Piffl has retained the familiar faces of experienced staff. Angie Mattson and Ellen Ganz have each been at the office for nine years. The office has kept its regular patients through the transition and attracted new ones as well.

“We’ve been steadily busy,” Dr. Piffl said.

The Piffl clinic offers comprehensive eye exams, co-management of cataracts, refractive surgery, an extensive frame selection, and a wide range of contact lens options including bifocal contacts.

The office is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with later evening hours on Monday and Tuesday. The office can be reached at 715-536-3250 or 715-536-2020. The Piffl clinic is offering a summer sale on sunglasses. Call or stop in for details.
