Area Lions host National Diabetes Alert Day event

The Merrill Lions Club and Gleason Area Lions Clubs will host a Diabetes Alert Day event with information booths at both Dave’s County Market and Walgreens in Merrill on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Lions will be available to answer questions and hand out brochures with information about diabetes, the effects of diabetes, and how to control it.
The fourth Tuesday of March has been designated as Diabetes Alert Day by the American Diabetes Association. Because this disease is increasing by large numbers yearly, the Wisconsin Lions Foundation and local Lions and Lioness Clubs are promoting Diabetes Alert Day throughout Wisconsin.
According to the Center for Disease Control, almost 30.3 million people in the United States have diabetes, or 9.4% of the population. While an estimated 23 million have been diagnosed, one-fourth of the people who have diabetes don’t know it. Another 84.1 million have prediabetes. The estimated total of direct and indirect costs for this disease is $245 billion
If you are unable to visit one of the Lions Club booths, take the diabetes risk test at stopdiabetes.com/get-the-facts/risk-test.html.
Remember, a quarter of the people in the United States who have diabetes, don’t even know it. The earlier diabetes is detected, the easier it is to control.
