Charlotte “Char” M. Mootz

Charlotte “Char” M. Mootz, age 82, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.  She was born on May 13, 1941 to the late Harold and Elizabeth (Jopke) Hackbarth in Merrill.  Charlotte attended and graduated from Merrill High School and went on to further her education at the Northwest Institute of Technology in St. Paul, MN, where she earned her lab technician certification.  During high school, she met her soul mate, Eugene Mootz, and the two were united in marriage on April 8, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill, a union lasting almost 63 years.  He survives her.

Charlotte found joy in raising their four children and overseeing a bustling household.  As an “Army wife,” she embraced the traveling lifestyle and experiencing new places across the globe, calling many of those places ‘home.’  Charlotte had a passion for flowers and delighted in tending to her multiple gardens.  In her leisure time, she could often be found playing Solitaire or tackling crossword puzzles, and she had a great fondness for classic movies and PBS mysteries.  Her grandsons held a special place in her heart, and she took great pride in them.  She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 1638 Auxiliary and a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church, town of Maine.  Charlotte is remembered as a sweet, kind, humorous lady with a determined spirit.  She was a lifelong caregiver to those around her and always remained humble in her actions.  She will be sadly missed, but the memory of her will live on.

Charlotte is survived by her husband: Eugene Mootz of Merrill, WI, children: Daniel Mootz of Chandler, AZ, Jane (Kevin) McCarthy of Aurora, CO, Sarah (Paul) Miller of Merrill, WI and Andrew (Emily) Mootz of Denver, CO, 5 grandsons: Zachary, Tanner, Jacob, Nathaniel and Felix.  She is further survived by several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Daniel and James.

The funeral service for Charlotte will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, town of Maine.  Rev. Donald Love will officiate.  Visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, also at the church.  Burial at the Faith Lutheran Cemetery, town of Scott, will immediately follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations in Charlotte’s name be made to either the V.F.W. Post 1638 Auxiliary or Faith Lutheran Church.

Waid Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Merrill is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences are encouraged and may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
