On Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, beginning at 5:45 p.m. the Merrill Varsity Basketball Team will hold their annual cancer night/benefit. This year’s event will benefit a man who is near and dear to the heart of many athletes in Merrill, Todd Josiger.
Merrill Varsity Basketball Head Coach Troy Pieper describes Todd as “a die hard Merrill Bluejay guy” and “an amazing man, a great family man.”
Todd has also “been an important part of Merrill Athletics his entire life,” Coach Pieper said.
Todd has been the bus driver for Merrill Wrestling, Merrill Baseball, and some football games, and the Merrill Basketball Program considers him a member of their Basketball family, as well. His son is the trainer for the Merrill Basketball Program, and Todd also has three grandsons and two nephews involved in the Merrill Basketball Program. “He’s family, and Merrill Basketball is all about family!” Pieper said.
This year’s event has been dubbed “Team Todd” and social media is using the hashtag #TeamTodd to get the word out.
If you’re on social media, you might also notice the hashtag #WeWrestleForTodd. The Merrill Wrestling Team recently purchased their Team Todd t-shirts and had them printed with “We Wrestle for Todd” on the backside. They’ve been sporting their tees at recent wrestling events in support of their bus driver, as well.
Please come out and support #TeamTodd and the basketball teams on Tuesday evening. They will have raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle. All money from the raffles, 50/50 raffle, and concessions proceeds will be given to Todd and his family to help with anything they need.
Game times start as follows: JV/JV2 at 5:45 p.m.; Varsity at 7:15 p.m. All raffles will be drawn at halftime of the Varsity game. Anyone who ordered a TeamTodd shirt can pick them up from the concession stand on game night, as well. Donations are also welcome and will be passed on to Todd.
