On Dec. 19, 2023, Washington School hosted a Christmas Lighted Schoolhouse event for the third and fourth grade children who attend the school and their families. More than 250 kids and their families attended, according to Mrs. Lisa Hass, fourth grade teacher at the school. A free spaghetti and meatball dinner for all who attended was sponsored by their food service provider, Taher, and “Students from our after-school program were able to help prepare and serve dinner through a program called Kids in the Kitchen,” Hass said.
The evening included many activities: decorating Christmas cookies, crafting an ornament, and making gingerbread houses. Santa was there and parents could take photos of their children with Mr. Claus. And Mark Mehlos brought his therapy dogs, Kiva and Tucker, to interact with the children for the evening.
“We have not been able to do this type of event in many years due to COVID and other factors,” Hass said. “We were very excited to bring back this opportunity for students and families to experience the school and staff in a different way than they do on a day-to-day basis.”
