East Merrill Newman United (EMU) Bluejacks Varsity Hockey Team hit the ice to play DC Everest on Dec. 9, 2023, and came away celebrating with a 3-2 win.
“This was our first conference win since 2017,” Assistant Coach Greg Glovinski said.
Everest put the first score on the board just over 6 minutes into the first period, and the Bluejacks fired back with a goal 10 seconds later. #17 Zach Pagel put the puc in the net with the assistance of a teammate. The teams then battled it back and forth until 15:26 when Everest scored another point, and that put the score at 2-1 with Everest taking the lead.
In the second period, Pagel made another goal, this time unassisted, and Everest remained scoreless. That tied it up 2-2.
The third period Everest still couldn’t get another one past the Bluejacks’ goalie, but at 9:36, EMU Bluejacks’ Ryker Remington scored, landing the game-winning goal.
“All in all a great team win!” Glovinski said.
Bluejacks goalie Connor Burton made 37 saves in the game.
