MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

09-11-23
At 7:11 a.m. officers went to a residence, at the request of the Rothschild Police Department, to attempt to arrest a male. The man had committed several felonies in their jurisdiction. Officers observed the man walk into the residence; however, another male answered the door and claimed the suspect was not there. While the department was applying for a search warrant, the suspect exited the residence and surrendered himself.
At 7:23 a.m. a caller reported someone had stolen an item from his vehicle sometime in the last day. Investigation continues.
At 7:32 a.m. a business owner located a purse at his business, when he arrived to open. The owner of the purse was identified and the purse was returned.
At 9:12 a.m. a student was cited for juvenile tobacco violation after it was found he had been vaping in the restroom.
At 4:00 p.m. a caller reported her young daughter found a pill bottle in their yard containing an unknown substance. Officers will attempt to identify the substance.

At 09:16 a.m. an officer was dispatched to a residence on Hendricks Street for a report of a theft. The reporting party advised someone had stolen numerous items from her residence while she was in the hospital. The investigation is ongoing.
At 10:15 a.m. an officer was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on W. Main St. One of the drivers rear-ended another vehicle while it was stopped. One of the drivers will be cited for inattentive driving.

09-13-23
At 5:50 p.m. an officer took a report of graffiti spray painted at the Skate Park and in several other locations. The officer was able to determine who the suspects were and found out that the individuals had stolen the spray paint from a local business. The investigation is ongoing, but several youths will be referred for several charges.
At 10:02 p.m. an officer took a report that an individual had been punched by another subject earlier in the day. The investigation is ongoing.

At 3:30 p.m. an officer took a report of a theft of a package that had been delivered to a residence. The investigation is ongoing.

09-15-23
At 12:21 a.m. an officer was conducting a security check at a park and located a female inside the bathroom in violation of park curfew. The female refused to identify herself or leave the bathroom but instead became vulgar toward the officer. After a second officer arrived, the female was arrested for resisting an officer. She continued resisting while being placed in handcuffs. She was also cited for violation of park curfew.
At 1:39 p.m. the School Resource Officer investigated a student in possession of a vaping device. The device was found to contain THC.
At 3:32 p.m. the School Resource Officer investigated a student in possession of a nicotine vaping device.
At 3:57 p.m. a child was reported to be wandering about, seemingly lost. It was found the youngster had gotten off the bus and was having difficulty finding her way home. The officer took the student home.
At 10:38 p.m. a hotel reported they had kicked out some females who were now making numerous phone calls to hotel staff being vulgar. One female suspect was cited for harassing phone calls.

09-16-23
At 9:27 a.m. a caller reported finding a debit card in the Sheriff’s Office lobby. The card was turned over to an officer, and he was able to contact the owner and return the card.
At 5:09 p.m. a store reported a male had stolen grocery items from the store. Investigation is ongoing
At 5:46 p.m. a caller reported a vehicle backed into her vehicle at a parking lot, causing minor damage, and then fled the scene. Investigation is ongoing.

09-17-23
At 3:50 p.m. a caller reported his son had found a pellet gun in the woods near their home. The pellet gun was in a state of disrepair and inoperable and was discarded.

09-18-23
At 1:01 a.m. officers were dispatched to a residence for a report of an altercation. Officers responded and ultimately one individual was cited for disorderly conduct.
At 6:05 p.m. an officer was dispatched to a business for a report of a shoplifting incident. The suspect was identified and was cited for retail theft.

09-19-23
At 12:04 p.m. an officer responded to a report of a theft of items from a vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
At 6:12 p.m. an officer responded to a report of a theft of packages that had been delivered to the wrong address. The investigation is ongoing.

09-20-23
At 4:31 p.m. a caller reported youths acting suspiciously in a neighborhood at late hours. The caller felt they were up to no good and requested extra patrol.
At 6:27 p.m. a caller reported seeing a man who had a warrant out for his arrest, walk into a residence. The man was confirmed to have a warrant, as well as pending charges for another recent incident. Contact was made with the man, and he was arrested for the warrant and numerous charges from the other incident.
At 11:45 p.m. an officer observed a juvenile walking around in violation of curfew. The juvenile had been warned and cited in the past for curfew violation. He was again issued a citation and was found to also be in possession of a marijuana pipe. He was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, as well, and turned over to his mother.

09-21-23
At 1:51 p.m. a caller reported a vehicle had backed into his vehicle at a business parking lot and then left the scene. The business was able to provide surveillance video, and the registered owner of the striking vehicle was identified. Investigation continues.
At 4:31 p.m. a store reported a female had stolen some merchandise. The investigation is ongoing.
At 6:50 p.m. a store reported three juveniles had stolen merchandise from the store. Investigation is ongoing.
At 8:12 p.m. a store reported discovering some merchandise had been stolen. Investigation is ongoing.

09-22-23
At 5:30 p.m. officer were dispatched to a domestic altercation involving two individuals. One individual was arrested for disorderly conduct due to them hitting the other and damaging property.
At 9:00 a.m. officers were notified by another law enforcement agency of a possible bomb threat in the City of Merrill. The area where the bomb was alleged to have been was swept by officers, and no indicators of an explosive were found. An investigation is still ongoing on this incident.
At 2:43 p.m. officers were dispatched to a shoplifting at local business. Officers located the individual and citied him for the retail theft.

09-23-23
At 5:00 a.m. an officer conducted a security check at a local business. Portions of the building were identified as having property damage consisting of graffiti and physical damage. An investigation is still ongoing.
At 12:28 p.m. officers were notified of a possible intoxicated driver. An officer later located the vehicle and found that passenger of the vehicle had an open bond with conditions of absolute sobriety. The individual was later arrested due to this violation.
At 5:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to a shoplifting at a business and an officer located the individual who was still in the business. The individual was interviewed and found to have provided officers with a false identity. The individual was cited for retail theft and resisting or obstructing an officer.

09-24-23
At 2:40 p.m. officers were dispatched to a business in Merrill in reference to a shoplifting. Two juveniles involved were found to have approximately $230 worth of merchandise in their possession. Charges were referred to Social Services for the two individuals.
