Jack J. Zimmerman

Jack J. Zimmerman, 95, of Merrill, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Benedictine Living Community, Wausau. Jack was born May 22, 1928, in Merrill, son of the late Arnold and Margaret (Savaske) Zimmerman. He married Vera (Kruse) Peck in 1961 and she preceded him in death in 1989. He then married Helen (Erickson) Olsen in 2006 and she preceded him in death in 2016. Jack worked as a maintenance custodian for M.A.P.S for 25 years, until his retirement in 1990. Jack enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepsheadand cribbage.In the 1960’s, Jack built a cabin with his father on the south fork of the Flambeau River in Fifield. In his younger years he enjoyed spending his time there hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his family, friends and watching his youngest great-grandkids.

Jack is survived by his son, Todd (Cheryl) Zimmerman of Merrill; stepson, Howard (Christine) Peck of Merrill; stepdaughter-in-law, Janice Peck of Merrill; grandchildren, Brooke (Andrew) Foss, Kelley (Abiodum) Maflasire, Bradley (Lisa) Peck, Sarah Koskey, Tasha (Troy) Schmidt, and Ryan (Kelli) Peck; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Foss, Chloe Foss, Trevor (Megan) Peck, Molly Peck, Tyler (Anna) Koskey, Christian Schmidt, Ava Schmidt, and Brady Peck; sisters, Dorothy McGuirk of Fifield and Susan Thompson of Arkansas; and brothers, Chuck (Karla) Zimmerman of Merrill and Ralph ‘Buck’ (Judy) Zimmerman of Merrill. Jack was preceded in death by his wives, Vera Zimmerman and Helen Zimmerman; parents, Arnold and Margaret Savaske; stepson, Roger Peck; grandsons, Russell (Stacy) Peck and Peter Koskey; great-grandson, Christopher Koskey; sisters, Barbara Evertt, Phyllis (Richard) Cole, Shirley (Donald) Anderson, and Marjorie (Harold) Meyer; brothers-in-law, James McGuirk and Tom Thompson; and sister-in-law, Eilean (Clarence) Gross.

A memorial service for Jack will be held at 12:00 P.M., Noon, on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. The Rev. David Szeto will officiate.
