The skies over Merrill were busy last Sunday as the Merrill Municipal Airport was the designated finish line for the 25th annual EAA AirVenture Cup Race held July 23, 2023.
Approximately 70 unique aircraft in 29 race classes raced a route of more than 400 nautical miles to make a low pass over Merrill where their finish time was clocked. Throughout the day, the event drew onlookers at the Merrill Airport, up and down Airport Rd., and in nearby fields. Many local residents also took pause from their activities to turn their eyes to the sky to marvel at some of the unique aircraft, not often seen passing through at such low altitude in our area.
The EAA AirVenture Cup Race is held annually in advance of EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh.
