MERRILL POLICE REPORTS

07-03-2023
At 11:10 a.m. a caller reported her vehicle had sustained damage while parked in a parking lot two days prior. Video surveillance revealed a car backed into the caller’s vehicle and left without reporting the crash. The officer will be attempting to identify the vehicle and/or driver.
At 11:48 a.m. a male reported he had been battered while attending a wedding reception two days prior. The officer will continue investigation.
At 4:35 p.m. a caller reported finding drug paraphernalia while cleaning a residence that was recently vacated by the previous tenants.
At 7:27 p.m. a caller reported his neighbor’s chickens were at large. The officer was able to corral the chickens back into their coop.

07-04-2023
At 9:35 a.m. it was discovered someone had entered a park concession building and stolen snacks and beverages. Investigation is ongoing.
At 10:13 a.m. a caller reported someone stole a lawnmower from his garage. Investigation is ongoing.
At 3:57 p.m. a citizen turned in a set of keys he found near the Riverbend Trail.
At 4:03 p.m. a store reported a male and female shoplifting. The two left and were located shortly thereafter and a traffic stop was conducted. The female was arrested for retail theft, felony bail jumping, and probation violation, and the male was arrested for retail theft, three counts of felony bail jumping, and probation violation.
At 4:29 p.m. a caller reported someone forcibly removed the address number from her residence.
At 9:48 p.m. a caller reported someone struck his vehicle while he was driving and fled the scene of the crash.

07-05-2023
At 12:22 p.m. a caller reported that her bicycle was stolen sometime in the early morning of July 4, 2023. Officers recovered a bicycle around 2:00 p.m. that day matching the description of the female’s bicycle. The female confirmed that the bicycle was hers and it was released to her.
At 10:46 p.m. officers located vandalism in the handicap stall at one of the local parks. The officer observed that someone had sprayed silly string on the walls of the stall and then placed the aerosol can the silly string was in, into the toilet bowl. This case is still under investigation.

07-06-2023
At 5:01 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence in Merrill for a complaint of disorderly conduct. Throughout the course of the investigation, officers found that one individual had locked a resident outside the residence several times. The individual had also made threats to the resident during the course of their altercation. The aggressor in this instance was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

07-07-2023
At 2:29 p.m. officers were dispatched an E. 7th St. location regarding a suspicious person. There were several calls made on the suspicious male individual who had been asking for assistance with charging his phone. The male also was inquiring about purchasing a vehicle that the seller no longer wanted to sell. The male spoke with a Merrill Police Supervisor and was instructed to be on his way.
At 6:48 p.m. an officer received a report from a resident that she was scammed over $65,000 in credit cards. The investigation is ongoing.

07-08-2023
At 4:12 p.m. officers were dispatched to a mobile home community in reference to disorderly conduct. Officers made contact and spoke with the reporting party who appeared to not be coherent. The male is reported to have schizophrenia and was claiming someone was coming to kill him. Officers cleared his trailer home to help give him a sense of ease.

07-09-2023
At approximately 3:28 a.m. officers were dispatched to an E. 9th St. location for a disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and made contact with an intoxicated female who was belligerent and making threats toward her boyfriend. Officers arrested the female for disorderly conduct.
At approximately 6:19 p.m. officers were dispatched for a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of W. Main St. and State St. One of the drivers was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign.

07-10-2023
At approximately 12:38 a.m. officers responded to a motion alarm at a business. Everything was okay at the business.
At approximately 4:07 a.m. officers responded to a fireworks complaint in a residential area, but the suspects were not located.
At about 4:10 p.m. officers responded to a civil standby in a residential area to allow a male subject the opportunity to get his belongings from an apartment of a female who no longer wanted him staying there.

07-11-2023
At 12:00 a.m. officers were advised of a possible intoxicated driver. Officers responded to the area and located the vehicle. The officer that located the vehicle did not observe any traffic violations, and the vehicle was driving the speed limit. The caller was anonymous, so no contact was made with the driver. At 11:01 a.m. officers responded to a property damage complaint. Officers spoke to the reporting party who stated they found their window broken on their residence. The reporting party stated they believed it happened between July 5 and 10. This case is still under investigation.

07-12-2023
At 2:46 p.m. officers were dispatched to the Lincoln County Humane Society for a disorderly conduct. There was a dispute between an employee and a customer in which the customer did not want to pay a fee. The customer was warned for disorderly conduct and was instructed to leave.

07-13-2023
At approximately 6:30 a.m. an officer took a report of a stolen Yamaha dirt bike from a residence on E. 4th St. Upon further investigation from another case, it appeared the suspect was a juvenile and was identified and located in Athens. An Officer later followed up with the suspect in Athens and was able to obtain a confession and possession of the stolen dirt bike.
At approximately 6:42 a.m. an officer took a theft complaint of a stolen credit card. The credit card was later used at the River Co-Op in Merrill. Upon review of surveillance footage, the suspect was the same suspect involved in the theft of the Yamaha dirt bike.

07-14-2023
At 5:07 a.m. officers were dispatched to a residence in reference to a theft. The reporting party told officers that several thousand dollars was taken from inside his residence. The investigation is still ongoing.
At 7:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence for a complaint of disorderly behavior. An officer arrived on scene and located the suspect, who was intoxicated and had been yelling outside. The individual was found to have two open bonds with restrictions pertaining to alcohol. The individual was arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

07-15-2023
At about 10:12 a.m. officers responded to a reported theft of landscaping equipment from a residential area. The suspect drove away and caused minor damage to the ground/area.
At about 11:51 a.m. officers responded to an attempted business break in on the west side of Merrill.
At about 1:21 a.m. officers responded to a building in town where a delivery driver was believed to be intoxicated. As a result of that investigation, the driver was arrested for OWI.

07-16-2023
At 12:35 a.m. officers responded to a residence for suspicious activity. Officers were advised that a male party was on surveillance video walking around the residence. The male party was identified and officers made contact with him later. The male party was verbally warned for trespassing.
At 2:36 a.m. officers responded to a driving complainant. Officers found a mini bike driving on a public roadway. The mini bike was not registered and did not have lights on the bike. The male party driving was found to have a suspended driver’s license and was drinking, as well. The male party was under the age of 21 and was arrested for absolute sobriety as well as cited.
