Jay Ellen Brown, age 96, of Merrill, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Bell Tower Residence, while under the care of her family and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. She was born on September 14, 1926 to the late Dr. Otto and Emma (Edbauer) Sievert in Merrill. Jay Ellen was very proud that her father was the namesake for Ott’s Park when it was developed in the 1950’s. Jay Ellen graduated from Merrill High School. She married Linden Jaeger in 1948, who sadly passed away in a car accident in 1969. She then married James Brown in 1991, who preceded her in death in 2017. Jay Ellen worked for Lincoln County Bank for over 20 years and also for Lokemoen Optical, as well as being a homemaker and housewife. She loved shopping, playing Bridge and traveling. Jay Ellen was a strong-willed, patriotic lady who enjoyed socializing with everyone she met. At Bell Tower Residence Jay Ellen enjoyed playing Bingo and would join in activities and exercises every chance she had. She supported the Shriners Hospital for Children and was a member at Christ Methodist Church in Merrill. Jay Ellen’s feisty spirit and love for her family and friends will be sadly missed.
Jay Ellen is survived by her son: Jon (Susan) Jaeger of Merrill and grandson: Mitchell Jaeger. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands, Linden Jaeger and James Brown.
Per Jay Ellen’s request, no services will be held. Burial of her cremated remains will take place at a later date at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery.
