Thomas J. ‘Tom’ Schneider

Thomas J. ‘Tom’ Schneider, 74, of Merrill, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023, at his home under hospice care, surrounded by family. Tom was born February 19, 1949, in Merrill, son of the late Joseph and Mae June (Hertell) Schneider. He married Georgine Hartwig on October 14,1978. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2019. Tom was a Journeyman Millwright at the Wausau Paper Mill for over thirty-eight years. He also served as President of Local 1260. Tom served in the U.S. Air Force for three years and seven months and was stationed in Rhein-Main AFB, Germany. Tom enjoyed hiking, canoeing, kayaking, motorcycling, and extreme skiing. He volunteered over 4000 hours for the Ice Age Trial Alliance and was the 79th person to hike the entire 1200-mile trail.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Jo Schneider of Frankfurt, Germany; son, Bernd (Lisa) Schneider of Wausau; grandchildren, Laura, Landen, and Parker; sister, Jolene (Jim) Schneider-VanRyzinof Black Creek; brothers, Dennis (Linda) Schneider of Irma, Steve (Mary) Schneider of Menomonee Falls, Jeff (Nancy) Schneider of Merrill, and Robin (Cindy) Schneider of Green Bay; brothers-in-law, Jerome Hartwig, Gerald Hartwig, Gary Hartwig, and Duane Hartwig; and sister-in-law, Clarice Carstensen.  Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Georgine Schneider; parents, Joseph and Mae June Schneider; and brother, Arthur Schneider.

A memorial service for Tom will be held at 8:00 P.M., Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Greg Laska will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 4:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.taylorstinefuneralhome.com
