The “Keep the Wreath Green” wreath on the side of the Merrill Fire Station is a reminder to be safe this holiday season. Limit the number of lights plugged in together, don’t overload extension cords or breakers, keep space heaters away from all other objects to avoid combustion and fire, don’t leave lit candles unattended, and be sure to have working smoke detectors in homes (with fresh batteries), especially near bedrooms and sleeping areas. The two red bulbs on the Christmas wreath are indicators that already this holiday season, there have been two fires in the Merrill area. Each time the MFD responds to another building fire call, a red bulb replaces a green bulb on this wreath. The goal is to keep the wreath green, and keep our community safe.
