MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

08-29-22
At 3:23 a.m. a caller reported a male parked in a gas station parking lot was playing loud music, dancing in the lot, and had a dog running about. The male left prior to officer’s arrival; however he was located operating a motor vehicle nearby. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
At 10:11 a.m. Lincoln County Deputies requested assistance at an apartment complex in Merrill. The tenant had been evicted and remained at the apartment and was refusing to unlock the door. Upon arrival, the door was breached and the man was arrested by deputies.

08-30-22
At 12:58 p.m. a female reported she had been battered by her boyfriend the previous week. The male suspect was found to be at an address in Antigo. Antigo Police Department was requested to attempt contact with the man and take him into custody for domestic disorderly conduct and battery. Antigo Police Department located the man, arrested him, and turned custody of him over to Merrill officers at the county line.
At 8:13 p.m. a gas station reported a customer became disorderly and threatened an employee. It was found the customer became upset after an error with the fuel pump. The customer called an employee vulgar names and made a threat. The suspect left prior to officer’s arrival. The officer will be reviewing surveillance video to attempt to identify the customer.

At 1:15 pm, a local business reported historical trespassing on their property. Investigation into this incident is ongoing.

09-01-22
At 6:53 p.m. officers investigated violations of the junk storage ordinance at a residence. As a result of the investigation, the home owner was cited for the violations.

09-02-22
At 11:53 a.m. damage was reported at a park. It was found someone drove what is believed to be a UTV into the park and pulled up two benches. One was located in the Wisconsin River. Investigation is ongoing.
At 12:16 p.m. a student forgot her wallet at a park during a class there. She returned to find the wallet; however, the cash it had contained was stolen. Investigation is ongoing.
At 2:36 p.m. an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a registration violation. The vehicle first attempted to elude the officer and then continued driving at low speed. The driver refused to exit the vehicle when ordered but eventually did. While being arrested for fleeing an officer, he continued to resist officers’ attempts to take him into custod; as such, he was additionally charged with resisting an officer.
At 7:17 p.m. a caller reported someone had stolen the registration plates from a vehicle parked in front of his business.
At 10:57 p.m. a caller reported suspicious activity in their neighborhood. It was reported a vehicle had been parked near their home with three males by it. A short time later they departed in another vehicle, however, one stood near a gas station watching the other vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the three males in the vehicle returned. An officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. They reported they had agreed to meet a male to purchase a vehicle. When following the man to the location, they reported he grabbed their money they brought for the purchase and fled on foot. They had been in the area attempting to locate the man to confront him about the theft. Investigation is ongoing.

09-03-22
At 9:14 a.m. a caller reported finding a wallet in the roadway and turned it in. The officer was able to determine the owner by ID in the wallet. The owner was contacted and the wallet was returned to her.
At 2:55 p.m. a caller reported a possible domestic disturbance at a residence. It was found a juvenile brother and sister had been in a dispute; however, an adult male on scene was found to have a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested for that warrant.
At 8:06 p.m. a store reported a shoplifter had left with a cart full of merchandise. Surveillance video will be obtained to attempt to identify the suspect.

09-04-22
At 1:15 p.m. an officer stopped a vehicle for speeding and could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver admitted to having marijuana in a bag in the vehicle. Several items of paraphernalia were located, as well as products containing THC and a bottle of Vodka. The driver will be cited for the violations.
