Geno L. Hackbart

Geno L. Hackbart, age 86, of Merrill, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Geno was born on May 3, 1936, in Merrill, son of the late Marvin and Marie (Kleinschmidt) Hackbart. He married Marion Paul on June 20, 1959, at the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Town of Scott. She survives. Geno worked as a supervisor at Semco for thirty-seven years and at Kolbe and Kolbe as a forklift driver for ten years. Geno was a member of the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Town of Scott, where he served as the secretary. He was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Geno enjoyed bowling and in 1994 he bowled an 837 series. He also had four 300 games and numerous tournament wins. Geno played for the former Merrill Rangers baseball team and also played county league baseball. Eventually he went on to umpire high school baseball. Geno enjoyed following his son and grandsons in sports. He also enjoyed deer hunting.

Geno is survived by his wife, Marion Hackbart of Merrill; daughter, Kaye (Scott) Annis of Merrill; son, Dale (Cher) Hackbart of Wausau; grandchildren, Kurt (Whitney) Annis of Merrill, Jordan Annis (Tristin O’Neill)of Brookfield, Ryan (Denise) Annis of Texas, Jen (Dan) Brezovar of Wausau, Christy Beyer of Wausau, and Michelle (Rick) Gleason of Wausau; great-grandchildren, Ava Annis, Kolton Annis, Courtney Bloomer, Matt Annis, Katie Annis, Brady Annis, Lilly Beyer, Laney Brezovar, Myla Beyer, Liam Beyer, Everett Gleason, and Edison Gleason; sister-in-law, Mavis (Doug) Bloom of Wausau; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Marie Hackbart; and siblings, Marlene (Ronald) Zuelsdorff, Lloyd (Mary Anne) Hackbart, and Warren (Arlene) Hackbart.

The funeral service for Geno will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 2, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Burial will take place in Snow Hill Cemetery, Town of Scott, Lincoln County. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill and after 9:30 A.M. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Geno’s name may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill, or to the Lincoln County Humane Society.
