Wrap Up for the Period of: 08/01/2022 – 08/14/2022

08/02/2022 a Deputy was dispatched to a report of a disorderly male. It was reported to the Sheriff’s Office that a 25-year-old Merrill man showed up at a residence yelling with a hammer. Merrill Police Department assisted Deputies with locating the male. The incident took place on Taylor St. in the Town of Merrill. The male was arrested for disorderly conduct and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping. The male was booked into the Lincoln County Jail, and the report with a request for charges was sent to the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.

08/03/2022 the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a 911 call for a motor vehicle crash on State Rd. 17 north of Cty. Rd. C in the Town ofSchley. Upon arrival, Deputies found this to be a motorcycle versus a vehicle crash. Deputies, Town of Russell First Responders, and Merrill Fire Department Paramedics provided first aid to theoperator of the motorcycle. The operator of the motorcycle was a 61-year-old male and was airlifted from the crash scene. The operator of the vehicle was a 59-year-old female and was uninjured. Deputies on scene were assisted by Russell First Responders, Russell Fire, and Merrill Fire Department.

08/04/2022 a Deputy was dispatched to the Lincoln County Jail for a battery. The Deputy was informed that Corrections Officers were attempting to place a resistive 25-year-old Merrill man in restraints when he began to batter Corrections Officers. During the incident, two Corrections Officers received minor injuries. A request for charges of battery by prisoner times two will be forwarded to the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.

08/04/2022 a Deputy was dispatched to an address on Brandenburg Ave. in the Town of Scott for an altercation between two brothers. The one male was 44 years of age and the other male involved was 48 years of age; both were from Texas. The investigating Deputy found that a verbal and physical altercation took place. As a result, both males were arrested for disorderly conduct and were transported to the Lincoln County Jail. The report with a request for charges was sent to the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.

08/05/2022 Deputies were dispatched to a domestic on Hillside Dr. in the Town of Merrill. It was reported to dispatch that a 37-year-old Merrill man threw a 41-year-old Merrill female to the ground. The 37-year-old Merrill man was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

08/07/22 a Deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding on Cty. Rd. C in the Town of Schley. Prior to the stop, the Deputy also observed the vehicle deviate several times from its lane. After the Deputy activated the emergency lights and sirens, the vehicle continued for approximately two more miles prior to stopping. When the Deputy made contact with the driver, he found the 57-year-old Gleason man to be under the influence of intoxicants. As a result, the driver was placed through a series of sobriety tests and ultimately arrested for OWI. He was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

08/01/22 Deputies cited a driver on State Rd. 17 for 91 mph in a 55 mph zone.

08/04/22 Deputies cited a driver on US Highway 51 for 92 mph in a 65 mph zone.

08/05/22 Deputies cited a driver on US Highway 51 for 98 mph in a 65 mph zone.

08/10/2022 Deputies were alerted by Lincoln County Highway workers of a motorcycle being operated N/B in the S/B lanes of travel on USH 51 near the 211 mile marker in the Town of Merrill. The motorcycle was located by a Deputy at CTH C and a stop was attempted. The operator fled from the Deputy at speeds near 120 mph. A pursuit ensued with the driver continuing to operate N/B in the S/B lanes. According to the Deputy, he thought the motorcycle had suffered unknown damage, as the bike started to shake badly and the speeds were reduced. The Deputy continued to chase the suspect until CTH D where the Deputy terminated the chase for safety concerns. The Deputy continued to follow the bike for some distance at normal speeds but ended up losing sight of the vehicle in Oneida County. Oneida County Deputies assisted with the search for the bike, but they were unable to locate it.

08/10/2022 a Deputy was assigned to investigate a criminal damage to property complaint at the Lincoln County Courthouse. According to information reported, the suspect, a 38-year-old Tomahawk man, had business at the Courthouse and became angry. While leaving, the suspect opened the door on the north side of the Courthouse in a violent manner, causing the window in the door to shatter. The suspect was later located and taken into custody for criminal damage to property and five counts of bail jumping. He was transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

08/10/2022 Deputies were dispatched to Tannery Rd. in the Town of Bradley for a reported motorcycle vs. deer crash with injuries. Initial reports indicated that one person was standing, and the other was not breathing. The first Deputy on scene, assisted by a Tomahawk Police Officer, started attending to the injured. The party that had been reported to be not breathing was found to be breathing and had a pulse. The female party was found to have significant injuries to her head and leg. The driver, a 64-year-old Merrill man, was transported to Aspirus Sacred Heart Hospital and then to Aspirus Wausau Hospital by Life Link Helicopter. The female passenger, a 62-year-old Merrill woman, was transported to Aspirus Sacred Heart Hospital. Upon investigating, a dead deer was located at the scene of the crash. It was believed that the riders were not wearing helmets. Tomahawk Police Department, Fire Department, and EMS, and Life Link Helicopter assisted with this crash.

08/11/2022 the Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous complaint of someone trespassing in the old Scott School on Sunset Dr. in the Township of Scott. The first Deputy on scene made contact with the occupants of a suspect vehicle and, while talking with them, he observed intoxicants and illegal drug items in the vehicle. While the Deputy stayed with the suspect vehicle, other Deputies cleared the school to be sure no one else was inside. The driver of the car, a 17-year-old Wausau youth, was found to be under the influence of intoxicants. The driver was put through a series of standard field sobriety tests and, as a result of those tests, he was arrested for a violation of absolute sobriety. All parties in the car will be cited for trespassing for being in the school. Other charges may be requested once the investigation is complete.

08/11/2022 Deputies were dispatched to the area of CTH Q and Lake Rd. in the Town of Scott for a two-car crash with injuries. It was found that the driver of the first vehicle, a 47-year-old Merrill woman, had been W/B on CTH Q when she came to a stop on CTH Q, attempting to turn S/B onto Lake Rd. While waiting to turn, she was rear-ended by a vehicle traveling W/B on CTH Q. The vehicle was being operated by a 19-year-old Merrill man. Both parties were transported by ambulance to local hospitals. The crash is still being investigated; citations may be issued.

08/14/22 dispatch received a call of a possible impaired driver swerving all over the road and tailgating on USH 8 near CTH YY in the Township of Somo. A Deputy located the vehicle and began to follow it, looking for signs of impairment. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle as it turned N/B onto CTH L. The driver, a 54-year-old Wausau woman, was found to be under the influence of intoxicants. The driver was placed through a series of standard field sobriety tests and, as a result of those tests, she was arrested for a first offense operating while under the influence of intoxicants. She was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

During this period, there were four reported car/deer crashes and one car/cow crash.
