The Merrill High School (MHS) Varsity Track and Field Team traveled to the UWSP Multi-Activity Center (MAC) on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, where the Wisconsin Valley Conference (WVC) held an indoor meet. As a result, this was one April 12 event that didn’t have to be shut down due to lightning.

MHS athletes competed against athletes from Stevens Point, DC Everest, Marshfield, Wausau East, Wausau West, and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln high schools.

Four Merrill athletes stood out from the competition and placed in the meet, with two athletes taking first place finishes and one setting three new school records.

Ashton Voermans had a second place finish in the boys 400 meter dash with a time of 53.86 seconds.

Elexa Emmer took third place in the girls shot put with a distance of 32’8”.

Madi Crossman took first place in the girls 200 meter dash with a time of 27.38 seconds.

And Liz Schmidt is already setting new school records early in the season, after breaking a number of school records last year. Schmidt took first place and set a new school record on April 12, 2022, in the 800 meter with a time of 2.22.85. She then took second place and set a new school record in the 1600 meter with a time of 5.11.84 and took second place and set a new MHS record in the 3200 meter with a time of 11.35.72.

“These three were NEW Merrill High School Indoor Records,” MHS Varsity Track and Field Head Coach Alec Oestreich said.
