Zastrow is February Youth Optimist at MHS

Taylor Zastrow has been named February Youth Optimist at Merrill High School (MHS). In his nomination, Mr. Joshua Olson said: “Taylor is a remarkably kind and caring person. She is a light of optimism during all rehearsals and performances, even as we are doing hard work and being very focused. I know every day that Taylor is going to approach rehearsal with a good attitude and find ways to laugh and engage the people around her. Rehearsals would be far less enjoyable without Taylor being a part of them, and that positive spirit is felt in all of the groups in which she sings.”

“Taylor ‘stands out’ because it is not common to find a person so committed to activities while also bringing such great energy all of the time.” Mr. Olson said. “I interact with Taylor for multiple hours on a daily basis, and she is consistent in her approach and energy. We need more people like Taylor in the world, people who are interested in improvement while bringing positive energy and dedication. She is the exemplary model for what I look for in my classes, and I know I can always depend on her in the activities she participates in.”

At MHS, Taylor has been active in Junior Optimist, Link Crew, Vocal Jayz, Student Senate, Bluejay Beat, National Honors Society (Secretary), Raise Your Voice, Musical (Lead), The Nest, and Student Council.

When not in school, Taylor participates in Merrill Busy Bees 4-H Club (Officer), is a volunteer coach for the Merrill Ice Reflections, and was a volunteer for vacation bible school.

Taylor plans to attend UW-Stevens Point to major in secondary History/Social Studies education.

She is the daughter of Terry and Leah Zastrow.
