Genevieve Hollenback

Genevieve Hollenback, age 85 of Appleton, passed away at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton on March 14, 2022. Gen was born in Merrill, Wisconsin on March 11, 1937, daughter of the late Adam and Anna (Kordus) Sczygelski. She attended Holy Cross High School for a short time, and then was called back home to help care for the family.  In 1956 she moved from the farm in Merrill to Appleton, where she met Jerome while working at Appleton Papers.  She married the love of her life on February 1, 1958.  Jerome preceded her in death in 2007.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband, volunteering in the Gift Shop at St. Elizabeth Hospital and with the Ladies of Sacred Heart, and was also a Cub Scout Den Master.

Genevieve is survived by four children: Matt (Christi Nelson) Hollenback, Joe (Tina) Hollenback, Penney Hollenback, and Steve (Shauna) Hollenback; six grandchildren: Jeff (Amy Zimmerman) Hendrickson, Debbie (Luke) Grix, Laura Webb, Crystal Hollenback, Terry (Brianna) Hollenback, and Sienna (Gustavo) Bedolla; and her great-grandchildren who lovingly called her “Grandma Sweetie”: Austin, Kyria, Tiana Nolan, Bennett, Kinley, Liam, Brody, Naomi, Rowan, Mauricio, Shandi, and Raquel.  There are also two sisters: Rosemary Eckardt and Esther Ament, and a brother John (Helen) Sczygelski and sister-in-law, Corrine (Anthony) Sczygelski.  Gen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Charles (Joyce), Lawrence (Vivian), and Anton, a sister Regina (Norman) Roets, and brothers-in-law Bob Eckardt and James Ament.  She was also preceded in death by Curly’s family: Betty (Bob) Hickinbotham, Fran (Mickey) Hollenback, Jean (Red) Falk, Marie (Leroy) Heimmerman, Marge (Bob) Balza, and Joe (Dolores) Schmidt.

A memorial service for Genevieve will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, located at 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton.  She will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery with her husband Jerome.  Visitation will begin on Saturday morning, April 9, from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.  Genevieve was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be missed by all, especially her little sweeties whom she loved to spend time with.
