MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

02-21-2022

At 2:55 p.m. officers responded to a residence after the caller reported that someone was attempting to break in. After speaking with the parties involved, it was found that the person attempting to gain entry was the property owner and the caller was the renter. It was also believed by the owner that there was an individual staying at the residence who was not allowed to be there. During a consensual walk-through of the residence looking for the individual, officers located a pipe commonly used for smoking THC. Officer’s confiscated the pipe, and it later field tested positive for THC. The renter was issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 2:57 p.m. an individual was seen walking through a store taking items off of the shelf and then returning them before leaving. The receipt provided when returning the items showed that the items had been purchased two days prior. Investigation is ongoing.

At 5:21 p.m. an individual came into the Police Department reporting that she had found multiple bags, containing various newly purchased items, in the back trunk area of her vehicle, after she came out from shopping at a different store than the one from which the bags belonged. The individual confirmed that she had not purchased the items. The items were taken back to the store they were believed to have come from, and it was confirmed that they were paid for. The items had been purchased for Christmas presents, and the person meant to put them in a family member’s vehicle, when they accidently put the items in the incorrect vehicle.

At 9:16 a.m. an individual came into the Police Department to report that his neighbor was feeding deer, which was against City ordinance. Contact was made with the neighbor and he admitted that he had been feeding the deer but would stop. The neighbor was verbally warned not to feed the deer.

AT 11:46 a.m. an individual was stopped at a store after attempting to shoplift multiple items. The individual admitted to taking the items and was issued a citation for retail theft.

At 2:49 p.m. a store reported two juvenile females had stolen merchandise. The females were cited for retail theft.

At 7:41 p.m. a caller reported a burglary in progress after observing someone in an apartment that was supposed to be vacant. Contact was made with the male inside, and it was found he was doing some work inside with permission from the owner.

At 8:36 p.m. a female brought her juvenile son to the Police Department after she found him in possession of prescription medication. The juvenile will be referred to Social Services for possession of a controlled substance.

At 9:13 p.m. an officer located a purse that an unknown person had left in the foyer of the Police Department. The purse contained identifications for several different people. The officer attempted contact with the people the identifications belong to and was unable to do so.

At 5:03 p.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop on E 3rd St. near Court St. The driver was cited for non-registration of auto.

02-25-2022

At 11:54 a.m. an individual reported to have been scammed out of $40,500 dollars by someone hacking their sister’s Facebook account and requesting the money. The money was sent via check to an address in another state. Investigation is ongoing.

At 12:53 p.m. an individual reported finding a Dell Optiplex 360 Tower on their porch swing. At this time it is unknown who the computer system belongs to.

At 5:24 p.m. a shoplifting was reported from a local business. A male was reported to have taken a watch and left the store on foot with the watch in his pocket. Investigation is ongoing.

At 9:53 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Douglas St. after two mini bikes were reported to be speeding up and down the street and revving the engines. The mini bikes were located and the operators were cited for Disorderly Conduct with a Motor Vehicle.

02-26-2022

At 11:53 a.m. a female reported that a male had punched a hole in a wall of the residence, causing damage, and threatened to break more items, and also hit her. Officers responded to the residence and, after investigations, took the male into custody for domestic disorderly conduct.

At 7:02 p.m. a person walking on Chippewa St. reported smelling an odor of natural gas. Officers and the fire department responded to the area and also detected the odor. The odor was traced back to a residence and believed not to be of natural gas, but from a faulty furnace. Further investigation was left to the Fire Department.

At 8:22 p.m. an open door was located by officers at a local business. The business was searched with no one located inside. The door was re-secured.

02-27-2022

At 10:30 a.m. officers responded to a noise complaint at an apartment complex. The caller stated that there had been an alarm sound coming from the next door apartment all throughout the day. Officers made contact with the tenant who advised that it was a pollution machine they had in their apartment to detect any pollution in the air that was making all the noise. The tenant was warned to either turn the machine off or turn the noise down.

At 1:03 p.m. officers responded to a hotel after suspected THC was located in one of the rooms after being cleaned. The substance was confirmed to be THC and was destroyed at the Police Department.

At 8:52 p.m. an individual reported that an alarm had been going off on a new truck parked in a dealer parking lot for approximately the last 30 minutes before the call. Officers responded to the parking lot and found no vehicles with alarms going off or any damage to any vehicle.
